Pi Record?
Recently in the pages of Slashdot informed about beating the record in the accuracy of the calculation of PI by Fabrice Bellard with accuracy up to 27 trillion decimal places.
Almost immediately after, there are voices what to do so given that the exact calculation in science until such accuracy is not needed.
I am, however, write a different opinion and why such experiments are needed for me:)
Firstly, the fact that he did so from your home computer gives you a lot of thinking to do that Fabrice had to develop a number of algorithms for scheduling and division of labor between the various processor cores, and this can be most useful for ordinary mplayer for example when compressing video, sound, etc. And to give great leeway.
The second thing is the fact that his formula and mathematical algorithms accelerate some very complicated mathematical calculations and it can no longer benefits mathematics.
The third issue is the fact that such initiatives by other research projects are directed to the masses will be more familiar. Can. Boinc:)
That's all from me about this:)
