Once I threw the directory structure in OpenSolaris with explanations, today I decided to put something similar on FreeBSD:)
/ boot -> kernel and bootloader startup files
/ root -> Product
's main root / bin -> binary programs
/ sbin -> binary system files that run only on a root.
/ lib -> Libraries System
/ var -> Logs and settings for boot
/ etc ->
configuration files / tmp ->
Temporary files / usr -> Folder
userspace / usr / home -> user home directories
/ usr / lib / usr / bin / usr / sbin -> Libraries and binaries in user space
/ usr / local / * -> software and configurations installed locally
/ etc / fstab -> file systems are mounted automatically at boot
/ mnt -> mount
/ usr / ports -> Port
